After a distinguished 12-year career on the World Cup circuit and four years representing the Norwegian national team, seasoned sprinter Anna Svendsen bids farewell to competitive cross-country skiing.

Hailing from Tromsø, 34-year-old Norwegian Anna Svendsen has decided to hang up her skis after two World Championships and numerous memorable races.

Svendsen’s retirement comes after a remarkable journey in the sport, marked by notable achievements, including a seventh-place finish at the 2021 World Championships in Oberstdorf and a 13th-place performance at the 2023 edition in Planica.

Throughout her career, she contested 89 World Cup races, securing a commendable second place in the team sprint event at PyeongChang 2017 and 14 top-10 finishes.

However, despite her remarkable accomplishments, Anna Svendsen faced challenges maintaining her national team position following the 2023 World Cup season. Undeterred, she now embraces the transition into a new chapter of her life, expressing gratitude to her supporters and revealing her plans to embark on a career in nursing.

In a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram account, Svendsen reflects on her unique path, stating, “A time for everything… Now that journey is over.” She looks forward to commencing work in the infectious diseases department, signaling a shift from the competitive arena to the healthcare sector.

Svendsen’s retirement announcement coincides with Kristine Stavås Skistad’s unexpected return to the Norwegian national team, injecting fresh energy and anticipation into the cross-country skiing community.
