This weekend the French Nordic Championships occur at Les Tuffes Station des Rousses. On Friday, it was time for the sprint races.

The Championships location was initially planned to host a stage of the World Cup in January. Friday, the championships started with sprint skating, which took place in a winter atmosphere, as it snowed throughout the day.

On both men’s and women’s fields, the winners were part of the U23 category and went to the Junior and U23 World Championships in Lygna, Norway, and we will probably see them at the top of the ranking again in the next few days.

The rest of the weekend’s program includes a mass start on Saturday and the relays on Sunday.

Northug stands behind athlete balancing work and elite skiing

The 32-year-old from Drammen works full-time for the city of Oslo. She actually quit cross-country skiing at the age of 14, but Petter Northug Jr. has placed his trust in her as part of his Team Burger King Northug — and her progress has been nothing short of remarkable.
