First Covid Case In The Tour De Ski
On Sunday, the Finnish national team confirmed that a cross-country skier in the Finnish team to Tour de Ski has tested positive for Covid-19.
23-year-old Eveliina Piippo tested positive for corona virus when entering Switzerland. She was immediately put in isolation in her hotel, in accordance with the Swiss health authorities’ requirements.
Piippo, who was embarking on her first Tour de Ski, does not show any symptoms of illness, at least not so far. The Finnish Tour de Ski team is adhering strictly to alle corona restrictions and measures.
“We have received detailed information on rules and requirements on how to handle the situation from the Swiss authorities. We act in accordance with them,” Finnish national team coach Pasanen says.
“Throughout the entire trip to Switzerland, the team also respected internal guidelines to reduce the risk of infection as much as possible. Therefore, the rest of the Finnish team is now training and preparing for the Tour de Ski as planned for the first races of the Tour,” Pasanen says.
Piippo’s case is the first positive Covid test of the Tour de Ski.
Tour de Ski takes place from December 28th to January 4th. The first stage is a skate sprint race in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. The final stage is the traditional Alpe Cermis hill climb in Val di Fiemme, Italy.
