Dario Cologna Skips Skiathlon at the Olympics
Switzerland’s veteran Dario Cologna has decided to delay his departure to China in order to prepare for the 15-kilometer event later in the Olympics.
Dario Cologna of Switzerland is focusing on the 15-kilometer classic event at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.
Dario Cologna has had a rough season so far, with a 15th place in the 15-kilometer classic at the Tour de Ski as his top result in the World Cup.
The 35-year-old, who has announced that he will retire from World Cup-level racing at the end of the current season, now puts all his eggs in one basket: the 15-kilometer classic on February 11.
Cologna has won the 15-kilometer at the previous three Olympics: in Vancouver 2010 (skating), Sochi 2014 (classic) and 2018 (skating).
According to Sci Fondo, Cologna will most likely also race the relay at the Beijing Olympics. But he might opt out of the 50-kilometer event, which is the last of the cross-country events at the 2022 Winter Games.
