While European cross-country skiers were racing in some of the biggest roller ski competitions of the summer, their Australian counterparts profited from the best snow conditions and racing of their winter season. Check the results from the Australian Open Championship weekend 2.

The Australian Open Championship part 2 took place on August 19 and 20 in Falls Creek, Australia. On Saturday, the skiers competed in the 1.1km freestyle sprint; on Sunday, the 10km individual classic technique event took place. 

1.1km Sprint – Freestyle Technique

On Saturday’s sprint in the women’s field, the strongest of the day was the biathlete Darcie Morton (AUS), followed by Flavia Lindegger (SUI) and Paul Katerina (AUS). 

Christian Winker (GER) won the men’s event, while Fabian Stocek (CZE) finished in second place, and Jayden Spring (AUS) in third position completed the podium.

10km Individual Start – Classic Technique 

On Sunday, the Swiss cross-country skier Flavia Lindegger skied the fastest time on the women’s 10km with a time of 34:04.0, followed by Katerina Paul (AUS), 33.4 seconds back, and Darcie Morton (AUS) in the third place, 1:52.4 behind the day’s winner. 

The 10km classic men’s podium saw the same winner as on Saturday, with Christian Winker (GER) posting the fastest time of the day at 30:05.0. 

Fabian Stocek (CZE) took second place 16.9 seconds back. Lauro Braendli (SUI) completed the podium a little over 40 seconds behind the winner.
