VASALOPPET – WOMEN

In the women’s race, which also started at 8:00 CET, together with the men, the speed was high right out from the start, with the women trying to hold on to the men’s peloton.

Soon the women reached the Högsta Punkten – the day’s Climb checkpoint, Anikken Gjerde Alnæs, Team Engcon, and Stina Nilsson, Team Ragde Charge, crossed the climb first and second, with already a small lead over the women chasers. Silje Øyre Slind, Team Aker Dæhlie, and Emilie Fleten, Team Ramudden, some of the favorites for the day, crossed 12.0 and 12.4 seconds behind, third and fourth places, after just 2.9km into the race.

The leading duo soon dissolved and Stina worked well together with the men in front and got a gap over Anikken. At the Smågan Sprint at the 10.7km mark, Stina Nilsson, Team Ragde Charge, crossed first, followed by Anikken Gjerde Alnæs, Team Engcon, 10.5 seconds behind, and Silje Øyre Slind, Team Aker Dæhlie, 28.5 seconds back, with Emilie Fleten, Team Ramudden, crossing in the fourth position, 44.8 seconds behind.

At the Mångsbodarna checkpoint, 24.3km into the race, Nilsson crossed first, with Øyre Slind 1:20.8 behind, Gjerde Alnæs 1:21.5, and the next skier, Fleten, already 3:05.0 back. About ten kilometers later, at the Risberg checkpoint, Nilsson was already 2:32.0 ahead of Øyre Slind, 2:36.9 over Gjerde Alnæs, and 4:38.7 ahead of Fleten.

At the second Sprint point of the day at Evertsberg, within 48km in the race, Stina Nilsson crossed first. With a gap of 3:38.1, Silje Øyre Slind was second, with Anikken Gjerde Alnæs following 3:38.5 behind the leader. Emilie Fleten was already 6:54.1 back.

When the leading Pro Team athlete reached Oxberg, Nilsson had a lead of 4:47.8 and 4:48.2 over Gjerde Alnæs and Øyre Slind, with Fleten already 9:37.5 back. From there, the women’s race was about Stina Nilsson in the lead and the chasers behind fighting for the remaining podium places.

At Hökberg, the gap was still solid, and the lead was 5:28.0 over Øyre Slind and Gjerde Alnæs and almost 11 minutes over Fleten.

In the end, Stina Nilsson, Team Ragde Charge, won Vasaloppet with a solid performance, paced herself perfectly to win this year’s Vasaloppet in superior performance, in a total time of 3:54:00.6, and her first Ski Classics Pro Tour event win.

Second place went to Anikken Gjerde Alnæs, Team Engcon, 5:10.4 back. Silje Øyre Slind, Team Aker Dæhlie, completed the podium in the third position, 5:11.2 behind the winner.
