Last Season, Team Robinson Trentino made history by becoming the first team with American athletes competing with its colors – Rosie Brennan, Scott Patterson, and Rosie Frankowski. Now, the Italian squad strikes again by signing the first American skier racing full-time at the Ski Classics Pro Tour.
Last season, just after the ban of Russian athletes, Bruno Debertolis received a call from Rosie Brennan showing interest in racing at Birkebeinerrennet. Team Robinson Trentino Director couldn’t feel prouder about it – he was about to have the first American skiers competing in a Ski Classics team.
Rosie Brennan, Scott Patterson, and Rosie Frankowski competed in Norway under the Italian Pro Team colors. Therefore, American skiers were competing as Pro Tour athletes for the first time in history.
“I’m still excited about it. Now Rosie and her boyfriend, Tyler Kornfield, will be part of our world from the beginning of the season. Tyler will be a full-time long-distance skier, and Rosie will race in some of the events,” says Bruno Debertolis.
“I think that having opened this new path with athletes from overseas, who are very strong and love long-distance skiing, is a challenge won from the start. With them, from now on, we can say that Ski Classics is the long-distance World Championship. I believe that good results will come soon and will be a stimulus for many other strong athletes from the American Continent.”
Tyler Kornfield is a former Olympic athlete who has finished 48th at the 50km Mass Start in PyeongChang. Bruno believes that with good and hard summer work, he can already compete at a pretty high level from the first races.
“Their sporting culture and determination are proverbial, and I am convinced that they can’t wait to participate in the most beautiful ski marathons in the world. I am sure that the power of these strong athletes who live in Europe all winter long will open the way for many other Americans, high-level and amateurs. It can be a Ski Classics 2.0,” continues Bruno.
Bruno only met Rosie Brennan last season, but it was enough to understand how strong she is: “very strong body but an incredibly strong mind.” Last season, she did a very good race from Rena to Lillehammer despite difficult conditions for kick wax. She was the best female with kick wax for her first time at such a long distance.
“I am pretty sure she will enjoy the races in which she will compete. Now we don’t know exactly in which races she will compete but probably only after World Championship in Planica,” states Debertolis.
Team Robinson Trentino has also signed with Tereza Hujerová, the young athlete who competed for Slavia Pojišťovna Sport Team Z.S. last season and managed to have results such as 18th at Årefjällsloppet and 20th at Jizerská50.
“She is very determined, and she knows what she wants. She comes from her first season in double poling, where she has already shown her strength, and for such a young woman, it is never easy. Surely in the next season, she will make another improvement that will allow her to climb different positions and compete for the first positions of the pink bib. She will have all our support to follow this goal,” concludes Bruno.
Team Robinson Trentino will have its first training camp in July, and we will cover the team training and cohesion during the training camp. Stay tuned on ProXCskiing.com.
