Team Engcon: Pro Team Director about Season XV
The Ski Classics Season XV is over. Now, preparation begins for the upcoming season. Hear about the past season and what lies ahead for Team Engcon.
Team Engcon entered the just-ended season with some skiers who have been with the team since before and some newcomers in the yellow-black squad.
The greatest expectations were, of course, on Season XIV’s overall winner, Ida Dahl, but it was a challenging winter for Dahl, who started strong but had the second half of the season primarily ruined by illness:
“If you look at the season, it was twofold. It started really well with the win in the Bad Gastein Pro Team Tempo. And Ida took a couple of victories and a couple of podiums before she got sick. There were quite a lot of illnesses in the team, which meant that the results were perhaps not as we wanted. But there were several peaks,” says Team Engcon Pro Team Director Jerry Ahrlin to Langd.se.
What is the most significant memory?
“Partly the team win in Bad Gastein. But also Amund Hoel, who delivered time and time again. The way he won the Green (Sprint) bib was very impressive. Then, both Johan Tjelle and Ole Jørgen Bruvoll were very close to the podium. And then I must mention Hanna Lodin’s season, which was very solid. She is taking steps and developing all the time. At the same time, she is so new to skiing that there is a lot to work on. She is a diamond in the rough,” says Ahrlin.
What have you done well during the season?
“I think we have done a good job within the team, not least in the ski tests. At least six people were around the team at each competition, with four test skiers and two in the waxing cabin. This has enabled us to test a lot of equipment. Then, we took a step with the technique through cooperation with Jørgen Ulvang. He has helped the skiers both with the technique and the training. Then, throughout the season, the team has had an excellent atmosphere, and all the skiers have contributed to that in a very good way.
What can you do better?
“It’s difficult to say, but it’s the case that illnesses have been a problem. For this season, we have “raised the bar” by separating skiers from leaders, for example, in accommodation, and the skiers have had “a lot of space” in the bookings we made. But despite this, we have had skiers who have had problems with illness. We have a job to do in the future. We have plans for what that work will look like, but I want to return to that later,” says Ahrlin.
When will the squad for next season be ready?
“I don’t have an exact date, but it’s soon. And then it’s not just on the skier side, but then we will present the entire lineup, the whole team.”
And if we are not wrong, will some skiers’ contracts expire?
“That may be the case; there is work to be done, so to speak,” laughs Ahrlin.
