Team Edux’s Sofia Lindberg shares early-season training tips
The ski season has started, but the weather continues to fluctuate in some areas, and conditions on many early-season snow tracks are far from ideal. So how should you train at this time of year?
Team Edux’s Swedish reinforcement, Sofia Lindberg, who has adapted well to the Finnish Pro Team, shares her early-season training advice.
“This is a nice team, and I fit in well here. The boys are fun, and they train hard. I think we complement each other well. From this camp, I’m expecting tough sessions and long double-poling workouts. Training with the boys is very beneficial – I see the level they’re at, and by training with them, I can raise my own level,” Sofia said during last summer’s camp in Vuokatti, analyzing the team and her training.
Sofia’s main goals for the season are to establish herself among the top ten in the women’s field and defend last year’s Nordenskiöldsloppet victory. For this time of year, she suggests the following training sessions, which anyone can adapt to their own level.
“My recommendation for early season is SkiErg training combined with skiing on snow. On the SkiErg, I personally do long threshold workouts like 6 x 10 minutes or 8 x 8 minutes. I also do shorter and more intense SkiErg sessions, such as 2–3 x 10 minutes, where I go 40 seconds hard / 20 seconds easy. Another option is a 6-5-4-3-2-1-minute pyramid with short recoveries,” Sofia told Maastohiihto.com and added:
“In addition to these, I do run intervals on a treadmill. And of course, early season also includes plenty of skiing on snow, but those sessions are mainly endurance-focused before the competition period begins.”
Pro Team Director Olli Tyrväinen looks ahead to the upcoming winter with confidence:
“In addition to Sofia, we have a couple of other names for the women’s team, which I can’t mention yet. In terms of the roster, things are mostly in place, and preparations for the new season are at their busiest phase – planning logistics, waxing setups, and deciding who starts in which race. Lauri and Isac will compete the whole season, and Sofia will be with us at least until Vasaloppet and the race in Orsa. I will race a few events next season myself, and with a couple of athletes, we need to see how things develop regarding the Olympics,” Olli explains about the team’s plans for the winter.
