Hedda Bångman has been a consistent Pro Team athlete among the top 10 in recent Ski Classics seasons. This spring, she was recruited by Petter Northug to Team Burger King Northug after several strong results.

Bångman took part in the Blink Festival a couple of weeks ago, but now there will be no more roller ski competitions this autumn. On Friday, she crashed heavily on her bike and suffered a pelvic fracture.

“I had a bad crash on the bike last Friday during a training session and fractured my pelvis. I am lucky that the fracture didn’t dislocate, which means it can be treated conservatively; however, this means walking on crutches with no weight bearing for 8 weeks,” she wrote on social media.

Seriously injured before

This is not the first time Hedda Bångman has suffered a serious injury. Two years ago, she fractured her foot after a fall during a race. Now she hopes to come back, but has no answers as to when.

“The last week has been hard mentally, as always when you get a bad injury, so many questions come to your mind; will there be long-term consequences? How long time will it take to heal? How much fitness will I lose? How long time will it take to be back in shape for racing? Questions that no one can give an answer to. Right now, I am taking one day at a time, listening carefully to my body, figuring out a rehab plan, and wiping my tears off in between, allowing myself to be emotional.”

But she was still lucky in misfortune – her back and head escaped without significant injuries.

“At the same time, I’m grateful my head and back are fine. I will most likely be fully recovered and be able to do all the sports I love doing again!” Hedda concludes.
