The 23-year-old Giacomo Ponti from Livigno looks back on a successful season. The young Italian talent has been improving his Ski Classics ranking every year while also competing in cycling events in spring and early summer.

Ponti lives in Livigno and has been focusing on Ski Classics competitions for three years. Alongside cross-country skiing, cycling is a major passion and forms the foundation of his preparation for the winter season.

His last season got off to a strong start in Bad Gastein, where he finished 28th at the Bad Gastein Criterium, a personal best result. Here are all the Ski Classics results from Giacomo Ponti.

“I can feel satisfied with the season and prefer to see the glass half full. The start of the season was very positive, and I achieved some good results, including my best finish in Ski Classics with 28th place in Bad Gastein. In the final part, however, I had some difficulties getting back into shape because I was very tired,” says Ponti to ProXCskiing.com.

“Despite this, I believe I have made an important step forward compared to the previous season, and I am happy with the progress. I have managed to make a growth path, and I think I am on the right path. I look forward to starting the next season and to continuing to improve and prove my worth even more,” he adds.

The Livigno native is now in full preparation for the new season, with cycling taking up a significant part of his training in spring and summer.

“I am aware that cycling can take time away from specific preparation for cross-country skiing, so from mid-July I change my approach: I reduce my bike sessions a lot and focus on roller skis and preparation for the winter season. I believe that this balance allows me to cultivate my passion without losing sight of goals in skiing,” says Ponti.

For the upcoming season, Ponti will race for Team Slavia Pojišťovna Robinson Trentino after previously competing with Team Futura GTE Trentino. His main goal is to consistently finish inside the top 30 and maintain a more even level of performance throughout the season.

“I would like to be competitive throughout the season and be able to maintain a high level of performance from start to end,” he concludes.
