First-Ever Pro Tour Time Trial On Saturday

by Leandro Lutz • 12.01.2022
For the first time, an individual time trial will take place in Visma Ski Classics. The 10-kilometer La Venosta Time Trial will start in Kapron and finishes at Melago Alm, on January 15.

Earlier in the week, we publish that due to the lack of snow in the Vallelunga valley, in particular on the Reschensee lake, the 75-kilometer long-distance Pro Tour event Reschenseerennen has been changed into a Time Trial and moved up to Melago in the Langtaufer valley.

Time Trial is an exciting new format in Visma Ski Classics

For those familiar with cycling, the time trial is a race where the athlete starts individually and race against the clock. Whoever finishes the race in the shortest time, wins.

Even though this is a 10-kilometer uphill time trial and not a long-distance skiing race as we are used to seeing, the Pro Tour skiers are positive about the new format.

For Ida Dahl, Team Ramudden, who double-poled all the way up to a win at Prato Piazza Mountain Challenge last Sunday, the new format will be interesting.

“I think this new format will be fun. It’s a little bit like last Sunday’s race but shorter. Of course, La Diagonela and Marcialonga are longer competitions but I’m going to do the best I can on Saturday as well, and hopefully, I will make the podium again.”

Johannes Eklöf, Team Ramudden, winner of Prato Piazza Mountain Challenge, shares the same feeling about the new race.

“I’m really happy that we have another uphill race, it will be exciting to see how I will race against the rivals, individually. Of course, I look forward to this race, but La Diagonela, next week, looks more realistic to me.”
