After many years on skis, Chris Jespersen shares his experience as Pro Team Director at Team Aker Dæhlie. Driven by his passion for technique and a simple philosophy: Simplicity is enough.

Throughout his skiing career, Chris Jespersen, Pro Team Director of Team Aker Dæhlie, has had both successful and unsuccessful training experiences. Today, he uses this knowledge to help his team’s athletes develop and grow.

“I have a lot of experience, and I’ve been skiing my entire life. I’ve done many things wrong in training—and hopefully a few things right as well. So I try to use my experience to help the athletes become the best they can be,” he says.

In his role as Pro Team Director, he quickly notices when someone’s training takes a questionable turn.

“Some of them do some rather strange things in their training. Then I can talk to them and try to bring some sense into it. I think it’s important to have someone you can talk to about training. I can speak from experience myself—I’ve done some very strange things in training. They can use me as much as they want.”

Technique is his great passion, and it’s where he puts most of his focus.

“My passion for skiing is technique. So I try my best to help the athletes become better skiers. I do everything I can to get them to listen to me.”

A simple philosophy

When asked to sum up his training philosophy, he lands on something fundamental:

“Easy is good enough.”

In episode three of Ski Classics Ski or Die, released on Friday, viewers will get to know Chris and Team Aker Dæhlie even better and hear more about the philosophy and experience that drive their work.

Run, but don’t forget about your feet

For every athlete incorporating running into their training plan, healthy feet are essential. Feet are undoubtedly the most stressed part of the body, yet most of us treat them as if our legs end at the ankles.
