This year’s major ski test is divided into five categories: double-poling skis, skin skis, skate skis for recreational skiers, skate skis for competitive skiers, and poles. First up are the double-poling skis.

Double poling has become a key part of long-distance skiing, and the development of specialized double-poling skis is moving fast. In this year’s test, we compared six models from the market’s leading brands, focusing on stability, glide, and handling.

In recent years, double-poling skis have evolved significantly, and all models tested performed at a consistently high level.

How the test was conducted

Testing took place at the Torsby Ski Tunnel in Sweden in September. The testers evaluated both skis and poles independently, assigning ratings and comments for each product.

The results presented here are averages of both testers’ scores. Each ski and pole was tested for 10 minutes on varied terrain to provide a fair overall impression.

Test criteria

Stability: How stable the ski feels both in and outside the tracks.
Glide / Feel: The ski’s forward motion and responsiveness – does it transfer power effectively and return energy efficiently?
Handling: How easily the ski can be maneuvered, particularly in corners and during track changes.

About the testers

Both test participants are experienced skiers who have competed at an elite level for many years in both long-distance and traditional cross-country skiing.. Alfred Nilsson is 185 cm tall and weighs 85 kg. Maja Eriksson is 171 cm tall and weighs around 70 kg. Their different body types led to slightly different experiences and ratings on some skis.
