At the most recent Olympic Games, Swedish biathletes have enjoyed significant success. Here, the stars share their greatest Olympic memories.

The Winter Olympic Games in Milano-Cortina are fast approaching, and more and more Swedish athletes have secured their tickets to the championship. The biathlon team has not yet been finalized, but as recently as last week, five biathletes were given the green light.

PyeongChang and the first medals

At the last two Winter Olympics, Swedish biathletes have achieved great success. For Sebastian Samuelsson, who has competed at two Olympic Games, the memories from PyeongChang 2018 stand out the most.

“It’s hard to choose, but something from PyeongChang, with both my first medal, the silver I won there, and the relay gold, which was also incredibly special. So, I would say those two weeks in PyeongChang are my finest Olympic memories,” he says, according to Langd.se.

“The euphoria in the finish area”

Linn Gestblom has not yet secured a spot at the Olympic Games, now less than a month and a half away. Still, she highlights several memories.

“I have two favorites. One was such an unreal feeling, at my first Olympics, when it was a bit of a surprise that we women won a medal. We had been on the podium a few times before, so there was a chance. Standing there with medals around our necks, and then watching the men’s relay, which they won as well, it was like, ‘Is this really happening? Am I actually part of this?’ It was almost as if I saw it from the outside. I couldn’t really take in the euphoria in the finish area when everyone gathered; it was really cool.”

“I handled the pressure”

The relay gold at the 2022 Olympics also ranks high on the list.

“Then it’s hard not to mention the Olympic gold. My best memory is actually when I led my leg, and we exchanged right alongside Germany. I handed it over and just thought, okay, I handled the pressure, and I managed it. I did exactly what was expected of me. I performed really well in that race.”

When she sent Mona Brorsson out on the second leg, there was a sense of relief.

“A bit of being able to breathe out. Now it’s up to the others, now I’ve done my part. I can be satisfied with that.”

The rest is history, as Sweden went on to win Olympic gold in the women’s relay.
