Slovak biathlon has lost one of its most prominent figures of the past decade. Paulína Bátovská Fialková has announced her retirement, bringing to a close a chapter in which she was a consistent member of the world elite.

Over the course of her career, Paulína Bátovská Fialková established herself as one of the most respected biathletes in the World. Her main strength was her precise shooting, which she combined with strong skiing performances.

The peak of her career came in the 2018/2019 season, when she reached top form. She finished an impressive sixth overall in the World Cup standings and consistently ranked among the World’s best. During that season, she also achieved several podium results.

Although she did not win a medal at major championships, she stood on the World Cup podium 11 times and got two silver medals at the European Championships 2016 in Tyumen.

The sisters formed the core of the team

After Anastasia Kuzmina temporarily stepped away from her career, Fialková became a long-term key figure in the Slovak national team, forming its core alongside her sister, Ivona Fialková. Her performances helped keep Slovakia visible among the leading biathlon nations.

In addition to her individual results, she contributed to strong relay performances, enabling the Slovak team to compete with stronger nations.

A new chapter in life

In recent years, her career has gradually evolved, also influenced by motherhood, which has become an important part of her life. Returning to competition after a break was challenging, and although she managed to return to a solid level, she has now decided to prioritize her family and new life challenges.
