Biathlon star leaves altitude training camp
Illness is causing problems during the Swedish biathlon national team’s camp. Hanna Öberg has left France and traveled home to Östersund.
Right now, the Swedish biathlon national team is at an altitude training camp in France. The camp lasts three weeks and is an integral part of the preparations for the Olympics in Milano-Cortina, which will take place at high altitude for the biathletes.
Hanna Öberg was not present at the team’s first altitude camp in Italy before midsummer, and now she has had to leave France, once again due to a cold.

“Gone off track a bit”
On social media, Hanna Öberg wrote about her health status:
“Unfortunately, the camp in France turned out to be a much shorter story than planned. A cold meant I had to pack up and go home. Of course, worse things have happened, but the plan has gone a bit off track. Now we need to figure out how to prepare for the season in the best possible way without the days that were planned to be spent at altitude. Luckily, @johanneslukas_jl has been around for 10 years and has Plans B, C, and D to fall back on!”

The Swedish national team coach is not worried
However, Johannes Lukas is not worried ahead of the season, which kicks off in November.
“I definitely don’t think there’s any reason to worry. Before the season, you always think about what might happen if someone misses one or two camps. The advantage with Hanna is that we’ve seen before that she adapts quite easily to high altitude after a short acclimatization period,” he told Sportbladet and continued:
“She has won a World Championship medal in Antholz before, and then we had much less time at high altitude. Now we have to prioritize continuity in training, and we will set up a good plan.”
