Baby news for the biathlon star
The Olympic and World Champion became a mother for the first time just over a year ago. Now she is expecting another baby.
Denise Herrmann-Wick, who retired from the World Cup circuit after the 2023 season, is expecting another baby. She and her husband, Thomas Wick, expect their second child soon.
The couple shared the news on social media:
“Two little hands that will soon find each other.
Two children’s hearts that will soon beat side by side.
Jonna will be a big sister.
And we get to witness our love transform once again.
Two little humans. One shared home.
And we are right in the middle of it.”
The 36-year-old German gave birth to her daughter Jonna on April 9, 2024. The couple has been married since 2022.
A great career in two sports
Denise Herrmann-Wick made her World Cup debut in cross-country skiing in 2009, earning several World Cup podiums and a bronze medal in the relay at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
In 2016, she transitioned from cross-country skiing to biathlon. She became a World Champion in biathlon for the first time in 2019, winning gold in the pursuit at the World Championships in Östersund. At the same championship, she also won bronze in the mass start.
At the 2022 Winter Olympics, Herrmann-Wick won gold in the individual race and decided to continue for one more season. Her main motivation was the 2023 World Championships on home soil in Oberhof, where she added to her medal collection with gold in the sprint, silver in the pursuit, and silver in the relay.
Since retiring, Herrmann-Wick has worked as a TV expert commentator.
