Tired of the way she had done everything
Last season was a nightmare, and the Olympics were disappointing. Now, the biathlon star has confronted herself, made changes, and brought in a new coach for a fresh start.
The Norwegian biathlon star has had a challenging and tumultuous winter. Leading up to the World Cup final in Holmenkollen, the 29-year-old from Fossum had two eleventh-place finishes as her best results in the World Cup. From the Olympics, she returned with finishes of 10th, 46th, and 71st. Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold has been searching for answers.
At her best, she is unbeatable, as she has proven time and again. Now, she wants to return to that level.
What is the goal for the upcoming season?
“That it will all just work out!” says Tandrevold to NRK.
“I want to show what I am capable of. That I can be more competitive at the top,” she adds.
Forced to confront herself
After the season, Tandrevold took a hard look at herself and her approach to training and competition.
In recent years, she has focused entirely on becoming the best elite athlete, following the recipe to the letter. Tandrevold eliminated social breaks and creative projects, wanting to optimize everything for her sport.
Instead of progress and better results, Tandrevold felt she was losing herself along the way. What used to be fun and enjoyable became associated with anxiety and discomfort.

New coach, new preparation
This summer, Tandrevold has done things differently. With the exception of Blink, she has skipped competitions and spent a significant part of the summer in Froland.
This is partly because the national team’s new women’s coach, Sverre Olsbu Røiseland, lives there. He and his wife, Marte Olsbu Røiseland, recently welcomed their second child, and it was convenient to be nearby during the final days before the birth.
However, Tandrevold enjoyed it so much that what was supposed to be a short stay turned into a long one.
After the first part of her preparation, Tandrevold praises her new coach.
“He is very calm, secure, and stable. I think those are very good qualities for a shooting coach. He has brought a new perspective and a new drive,” says Tandrevold.
Switched out her rifle
Tandrevold has also made changes on the equipment front, specifically with a new rifle.
About a week and a half ago, Tandrevold received the new rifle she will use this winter. It is custom-made for her by Kiwi Precision. The French company built a prototype of the rifle in the spring, and Tandrevold has spent the summer making adjustments. Now, the final version is ready.
Now she hopes it will yield results when the season kicks off.
