After a very challenging biathlon season, the 29-year-old from Norway is looking to try a new sport, possibly as early as this week.

Last weekend’s biathlon World Cup final in Holmenkollen brought a small boost after an otherwise dark season. Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold recorded two fifth places and one seventh place on home snow, clearly her best results of the season.

Still, the biathlete now wants to test herself in another sport.

It is primarily on the shooting range where things have not worked out for Tandrevold. In the tracks, she is almost always among the very fastest. That was also the case in Holmenkollen this weekend.

Now she wants to take advantage of her form and see how she compares with the world’s best cross-country skiers, possibly as early as this week at the Norwegian Championships (part two).

“Right now, I really want to race, but I think I’ll have to ask myself again on Tuesday whether I still think it’s a good idea. We’ll see,” she told Nettavisen.

Nine years since the last time

The 29-year-old from Fossum has competed at the Norwegian Championships in cross-country skiing once before. That was in 2017, when she finished 27th in the 30km classic.

This time it would be freestyle. How it would go, she is unsure.

“I have no idea, but I know they ski very, very fast, so all respect to the cross-country girls. But it would be fun to try once,” Tandrevold said.

The Norwegian Championships (part two) were originally scheduled to take place in Harstad from March 26 to 29. However, the event was cancelled just before the weekend due to weather conditions and has now been moved to Lygna.

Fast Norwegian biathletes

Norwegian biathletes have increasingly shown strong performances in cross-country skiing.

Einar Hedegart is, of course, one example, but he is not alone.

When Gro Randby competed at the Norwegian Championships (part two) in 2023, she took silver in the 5km, only beaten by Heidi Weng. Maren Kirkeeide finished in the top 10 at the season opener in Beitostølen in November.

Last week, Simon Hjelmeset Kirkeeide finished 12th in the 50km in Holmenkollen against the entire World Cup elite. Ole Tafjord Suhrke, who made his World Cup debut this weekend, and Johan-Olav Botn have both been in the top 10 in the Norwegian Cup and Scandinavian Cup. The list goes on.
