Milano-Cortina, Italy, will host the next Winter Olympics. The Opening Ceremony will be held on February 6, 2026, and there will be 12 cross-country skiing competitions over 10 days, culminating in the women’s 50km mass start in classic technique on February 22, 2026.
According to a press release from the Australian Olympic Committee, the organization announced the Olympic spots for the Australian Olympic squad this Thursday. Four women and four men were named to the cross-country skiing team.
According to the press release, cross-country skier Lars Young Vik follows in the tracks of his uncle Bjarte Engen Vik, who won four Olympic medals for Norway. He is part of Australia’s largest ever Cross-Country cohort with seven athletes. Teammate Rosie Fordham, who studies and trains at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, won a historic silver at the 2025 U23 World Championships. She then recorded the best result of any Australian in the history of Cross-Country Skiing, with 13th in the 10km Interval Start Free in December 2025.
“I am honored to be setting new standards for Australian Cross Country Skiing. It feels like all the decisions I’ve made are paying off , and it shows me and everyone else in the Aussie Cross Country community that it’s possible for us to compete with the best in the world.
“Becoming an Olympian means so much. It’s been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. When I was nine, I remember telling a friend at school that I was going to go to the Olympics one day, and I’ve been chasing this dream ever since.”
