Sweden’s Team to the Skiathlon at the 2022 Olympics

Sweden has selected the four women and four men to the skiathlon races, the opening cross-country events at the 2022 Olympics.

Sweden has selected the four women and four men to the skiathlon races, the opening cross-country events at the 2022 Olympics.

Skiathlon is the first of the cross-country events at the 2022 Olympics. The women go first, racing their 15-kilometer skiathlon on Saturday, February 5. The men race their 30-kilometer skiathlon on Sunday, February 6.

Charlotte Kalla is the title defender in the 15-kilometer skiathlon. She won the event at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeong Chang, South Korea. Teammates Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson also come to the race as strong medal contenders.

At the 2018 Olympics, Norway claimed the entire podium: Simen Hegstad Krüger won the gold medal, Martin Johnsrud Sundby earned the silver medal and Hans Christer Holund took home the bronze medal. 

Hegstad Krüger tested positive for Covid-19 last week and is still in isolation in Italy. Depending on his test results after his isolation, Hegstad Krüger could make the last half of the 2022 Olympics. Sundby has retired from World Cup-level racing, but Holund is a part of the 2022 Olympic team.  

Burman finished 17th in the 30-kilometer skiathlon at the at the 2018 Olympics. Halfvarsson did not finish.
