The Austrian coach has an impressive resume and has previously served as head coach for German stars Laura Dahlmeier and Denise Herrmann.

“By bringing in Florian, we gain external inspiration and can continue to evolve. We are confident that we already maintain a high standard in our shooting training, but we see it as important to stay curious and continue developing,” says Anna-Maria Uusitalo, Sports Director at the Swedish Biathlon Association, in the press release.

Improving Conditions Ahead of the Olympics

With Florian Steirer joining the team, the aim is to continue developing the national team for a successful Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.

“With Florian Steirer’s new role, an already strong leadership team becomes even stronger. We are confident that this joint effort will further improve the conditions for a successful Olympics in Milan-Cortina 2026,” says Fredrik Joulamo, Sports Director of the Swedish Olympic Committee.

Florian himself is looking forward to the assignment and to helping the Swedish biathletes, especially on the shooting range.

“I’m looking forward to collaborating with the Swedish coaches and sharing our perspective on biathlon training, especially shooting training. Sweden already has a strong foundation, and I believe that through open dialogue and mutual curiosity, we can find new ways to grow and develop together,” says the Austrian in the press release.

“Interesting”

Currently, Johan Hagström and Jean-Marc Chabloz are responsible for shooting training. Martin Ponsiluoma is looking forward to having a new person on the team.

“This feels like an exciting step. I have a very good dialogue with my shooting coach Jean-Marc Chabloz, and we work well together. Still, it will be interesting to see what new input this initiative will bring,” says Martin Ponsiluoma about the new coach.
