Pro Team Director Anton Järnberg talks about the great interest in the Pro Team, evaluations after tough races in Northern Norway, and continued focus on the Grand Classics Marcialonga and Vasaloppet.

Anton Järnberg, Pro Team Director of Lager 157 Ski Team, has just completed Season XVI. The squad finished in fourth place overall, just behind Team Ramudden. Team Ramudden has already announced its first news, namely that Ida Palmberg is leaving the team.

Järnberg’s Pro Team, however, has no finalized transfers yet.

“Nothing is confirmed yet. You can tell the season has just ended, and some athletes even still have races left,” says Anton Järnberg to Langd.se.

“However, we’ve noticed that many athletes are looking around.”

How have you noticed that?

“Many have contacted the team by phone and email to check the situation,” Järnberg explains and continues:

“Whether that’s good or bad for the sport, I don’t know yet, but it’s clearly a noticeable increase from previous years.”

Continued Focus on Marcialonga and Vasaloppet

The Ski Classics season finale requires strong athletes with high capacity to handle the challenging courses in Northern Norway. In the last three races—Marcialonga Bodø, Reistadløpet, and Summit 2 Senja—the team fought for top positions.

Emil Persson had the best result of the three, finishing 11th at Marcialonga Bodø, 2:13 behind Team Eksjöhus’ dominant trio.

You had to fight hard in the demanding Northern Norway races. Will you look for athletes with different profiles?

“You never know. Our goal will still be to win Marcialonga and Vasaloppet,” says Järnberg, and adds:

“But maybe we need to re-evaluate in the future.”

The women’s team, including Jenny Larsson and Karolina Hedenström, also had to fight in the final races. Jenny Larsson finished seventh in the final race, the Grand Finale Summit 2 Senja, while Hedenström was disqualified after a broken ski.

Larsson joined Lager 157 Ski Team this season from Team Ragde Charge. Järnberg and Lager 157’s approach seems to have yielded results.

“Jenny had a dip during Vasaloppet, but looking at the big picture, she achieved five podiums, making this past season her best so far,” says Järnberg.

Larsson finished fourth in Marcialonga, making her the team’s top female skier. Karolina Hedenström was eighth, and Linnea Johansson finished twelfth.

When will you have something finalized for next season?

“We’ll start preseason training in mid-May, so we’ll have the team finalized by then,” concludes Pro Team Director Järnberg.
