The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has announced its World Cup calendar for the 2026-2030 seasons. Check the innovations and calendar below.

World Cup Additions and Adjustments

According to a press release, “For the first time, in the 2026/2027 and 2028/2029 seasons, a new two-day World Cup event will be held in Pokljuka (SLO) on the weekend at the end of December/ start of the New Year when fan engagement in winter sport is at its peak,” and added that:

“To protect athlete welfare and maintain the number of competition days, the introduction of this two-day event will be compensated by removing the opening weekend of the season in November in those two seasons. The two week break in December will also be respected following consultation with athletes and teams ensuring the requisite time for rest, recovery and training.”

Oberhof Event Rescheduled

Oberhof’s World Cup stage will no longer take place in early January, moving instead to the later weeks of winter. According to the press release, the shift is intended to secure better snow conditions and a more stable climate, ultimately improving race quality. In the 2028/2029 season, this event will be scheduled immediately after the World Championships in Oslo, allowing teams to optimize logistics before the competition calendar pauses briefly, giving athletes a chance to rest before heading to the North American leg of the circuit.
