Ganghoferlauf, a Ski Classics Challengers event planned to take place in Leutasch, Austria, on March 4 and 5, is now canceled due to snow conditions and the weather forecast.

Ganghoferlauf is a two-day event that attracts around 2.000 skiers yearly, with a 50km long-distance race in classic technique on Saturday and a 42km long-distance race in freestyle technique on Sunday.

The local organizing committee released a notice about the cancellation on their official website:

“Unfortunately, the Ganghoferlauf 2023 in Leutasch and the Mini & Special Ganghoferlauf have to be canceled. Due to the current snow situation and the weather forecast, the oldest fun race in Austria cannot be carried out on the original route and/or not in the quality we are aiming for,” and continues:

“We, the Leutasch Ski Club and the Seefeld Tourism Association have examined numerous alternatives on the Tyrolean high plateau and developed new concepts, but these no longer meet the desired implementation requirements. Therefore, we, unfortunately, have to cancel the Ganghoferlauf 2023.”

“All participants will receive detailed information about the entry fee refund or re-registration for the coming year via email. Nevertheless, we are optimistic that Frau Holle will bring better things to us next winter and that in 2024 we will experience a Ganghoferlauf like it used to be: full course, with great conditions and also the social components, such as the pasta party and the award ceremonies in the Wettersteinhalle.”

“The date for the coming year has already been set, and the Ganghoferlauf 2024 will take place from 02.03. – 03.03.2024 in Leutasch. We look forward to many familiar faces and numerous young skiers at the 52nd Ganghoferlauf 2024.”
