This Italian Pro Team possesses an international flavor as there are two skiers from Sweden and one from Spain. They are all seasoned long-distance skiers eyeing greater things in Ski Classics and aiming to be the best Italian team in the game.

Mauro Brigadoi completed seven Pro Tour events last season, and he was a solid top-50 skier who knocked on the door of the top 30 club. The door once opened for him at Marcialonga, where he was precisely the 30th best skier.

Francesco Ferrari did not rest on his laurels last season as he finished eleven Pro Tour events with great success. He was also in the top 50 in every race except the ones on Norwegian soil. Birkebeinerrennet’s 62nd place was his worst result, and his 35th place at Prato Piazza Mountain Challenge was his best.

Lorenzo Busin was as busy as Francesco and managed to squeeze ten Pro Tour events into his calendar. His performance was similar to his teammates, and he got seven top 50 places. He was also close to the top 30 in two races: 31st at Jizerská50 and 33rd at Engadin La Diagonela.

Christian Lorenzi finished eight Pro Tour events last winter and was a steady top 100 finisher, with Vasaloppet’s 98th place as his worst and Jizerská50’s 46th place as his best. At Ylläs-Levi, he was close to the top 50 since there were 56 skiers before him at the finish.

Sadurni Betriu Boix, the only Spanish Pro Team Athlete, has a long career behind him, but the 40-year-old skier shows no signs of slowing down. Last season, he finished five Pro Tour events with two top 100 results and Marcialonga’s 103rd place.

The three women on the team were very active skiers last season. Malin Börjesjö completed nine Pro Tour events finishing in the top 30 in every race, but the Individual Prologue and her best day took place at Ylläs-Levi, where she was only beaten by 16 female skiers.

The other Swede Lovisa Modig did not grace us with her presence in any Pro Tour events. Still, she was busy racing at the Scandinavian Cup in Sweden, Norway, Estonia, and Iceland. She got a few top 10 places in those races and qualified for two World Cup races where she got to be in the top 30: 29th in the 30 km classic race in Oslo and 25th in the 10 km skating race in Falun.

Stefania Corradini was also absent from all Pro Tour events, but she participated in a few Alpen Cup races with some top-10 finishes. She also took part in the shorter version of Marcialonga, 45 km, and won that race.

This Italian squad is very strong, and there are solid top 50 male skiers on the team. They can all be much higher up in the Pro Tour event results on a perfect day, but they really need to lift the bar in order to even shine more brightly in Season XIV. The female skiers have potential, but Malin needs her teammates to accompany her to the upcoming Ski Classics races.
