The International Biathlon Union has a new president. Tim Farcnik of Slovenia was voted in unopposed by the IBU Congress on September 19, 2026, in Berchtesgaden, Germany, taking over from Olle Dahlin at the start of a four-year term.

Farcnik’s election was part of a broader reshuffle at the top of the sport’s governing body. Sofia Domeij of Sweden was elected as the new IBU vice president, while Christian Scherer of Austria was returned to his post as treasurer.

The Congress also filled out a new nine-member Executive Board. Joining Farcnik, Domeij and Scherer are Tore Boygard (Norway), Atanas Ivanov Furnadshiev (Bulgaria), Tarmo Karsna (Estonia), Nathalie Santer (Italy), Stefan Schwarzbach (Germany) and Tamara Wolf (Switzerland). Rounding out the board are Simon Eder, representing the IBU Athletes’ Committee, and Secretary General Max Cobb, who sits as an ex officio member without voting rights.

A new Technical Committee was elected alongside the board, made up of Knut Kuvas Brevik (Norway), Fabrizio Curtaz (Italy), Selina Gasparin (Switzerland), Ulrika Oeberg (Sweden), Sara Studebaker-Hall (USA), Emoke Szocs (Hungary), Kimmo Turunen (Finland), Christophe Vassallo (France), Hillar Zahkna (Estonia) and Michal Zichacek (Czechia).

Speaking after the vote, Farcnik pointed to continuity as well as ambition:

“It is a great honour to be elected IBU President. I thank the biathlon family for their trust and assure them of my total commitment to serving our sport and our athletes. Thanks to the work of President Dahlin, the former Executive Board, and everyone in the biathlon family, our sport is in an incredibly strong position. Now it is time to build on that position, making biathlon even more competitive, modernising and innovating our events, and unlocking greater commercial opportunities, all while ensuring that governance, integrity and sustainability underpin everything we do. I am hugely excited for what lies ahead. Together with our stakeholders, we can push even further and be even bolder in our ambitions for what biathlon can achieve.”

The Congress in Berchtesgaden is ongoing, with further business on the agenda, including a proposal to name outgoing president Dahlin as IBU Honorary President. Delegates also confirmed the location of the next IBU Ordinary Congress, which will be held in Windsor, Great Britain, in 2028.
