Swedish national cross-country ski team for season 2025/2026
The Swedish Ski Association has named its A-national cross-country ski team for the 2025/2026 season.
According to a press release from the Swedish Ski Association, the A-national cross-country ski team for the 2025/2026 season has now been selected.
“We’re heading into an Olympic season, and the goal is to sharpen the operations even further,” says Swedish national team manager Anders Byström.
The A team lineup for 2025/2026 includes eight women and seven men—an unchanged structure from last season. While the women’s squad remains intact, the men’s side sees two new additions.
“The women’s A team remains unchanged, but on the men’s side, there are two changes. Calle Halfvarsson and Johan Häggström are leaving the team, and joining are Marcus Grate, who achieved his first World Cup podium this past winter, and Gustaf Berglund, who was in the top ten twice this winter, including at the World Championship 50km race,” says Byström.
All eight women from last season’s squad return after an exceptional year that saw them dominate the World Cup and claim every woman’s gold medal at the World Championships.
“All eight women from last year remain. They’ve all maintained an extremely high level, and each of them won World Cup races this winter. Additionally, the Swedish women claimed all the gold medals at the World Championships in Trondheim—a true feat,” says Byström.
Coaching Support Expands for Women’s Team
On the coaching side, the Swedish Ski Association has introduced a new trio to support the women’s team. Ida Ingemarsdotter and Johan Granath will join Stefan Thomson, creating a flexible structure that ensures close support during both training camps and competitions.
Ingemarsdotter and Granath will continue their previous work with elite training in Östersund and Falun.
“The Svenska Spel’s Elite Environments are also key in our development of athletes outside the national teams. These environments provide training facilities, strong competition, and knowledgeable coaching resources. They are becoming increasingly important to maintain intensity in everyday training, where the athletes spend most of their year,” says Byström.
Olympic Focus Begins with May Camp
The next phase for the national teams includes physical testing and training camps, with gatherings scheduled in Riksgränsen and Torsby. The A team will first meet at the Olympic Camp in Crete from May 10–17, where the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK) will present the first official spots for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina.
