Myhlback crushes the field at Trysil Sprint 2025
For the second year in a row, Alvar Myhlback defeated the Norwegian stars at the Trysil Sprint when he returned to his old home turf.
“Well. I guess it wasn’t really a surprise,” said the Swedish star to Langrenn.com after claiming his second consecutive victory at the Trysil Sprint.
“It’s, of course, fun to win. It means a lot to race here, meet old friends, and there’s an incredible atmosphere here. I’ve been pushing really hard for many days now, so I was prepared for the possibility that my body wouldn’t feel completely on point,” said Myhlback.
Still, the 19-year-old took the win by a solid margin ahead of Kristian Kongssund in second place.

Northug with a sharp jab at the Swede
Petter Northug, who was Myhlback’s closest rival last year, didn’t make it past his opening heat. The 39-year-old still managed to reach the A-final by the smallest possible margin – by winning the B-final. Ultimately, he finished in third place.
“We have to say he’s on home turf, and he’s incredibly strong. Everyone’s talking about how powerful he looked today. It’s no coincidence that the Vasaloppet winner takes the victory here today. He’s strong,” said Northug to Langrenn.com, before sending a jab toward the young Swede:
“It’s no surprise that he wins today. But he has to remember that it’s a soon-to-be 40-year-old just a few meters behind him – so it’s not good enough either.”

Double victory for the Myhlback family
Alvar Myhlback wasn’t the only one in the family to win at the Trysil Sprint 2025. Between the elite B-final and A-final, a youth sprint was held. Here, hometown favorite Kristian Moen Bonden and Vera Myhlback, younger sister of the A-final winner, took the wins.
“We might have to consider whether that family should be allowed entry into Norway after this,” joked speaker Kjell Erik Kristiansen.
