Finnish long-distance skiing is not on the same level as in neighboring countries Norway or Sweden. At its peak, there were three Finnish Pro Teams in Ski Classics, but now only one remains. The first true Finnish Pro Team was Team Mäenpää, which for ten years pushed the development of long-distance skiing in Finland. That journey left a deep but warm mark on the heart of Pro Team Director Kim Mäenpää.
This Finnish Pro Team has been very successful in enhancing the culture of the sport on their home turf and coming up with good results. After securing the 25th position in the Pro Team ranking during Season XIV, Team Mäenpää will proudly carry the blue and white colors of Finland’s flag in the upcoming winter season.
Amanda Nyfors signed for another season with Team Mäenpää. “It will be fun to see what I can do in the long-distance races this winter,” says Nyfors in a press release.
Both unfortunate injuries and successes defined the Finnish Ski Classics Pro Team, Team Mäenpää’s race season.
Team Mäenpää strengthens the squad on the men’s side with young promising Juuso Mattila. The 22-year-old Juuso reinforces the team for both competitions in Orsa Grönklitt.
The Ski Classics Season XIV continues after the Christmas break this weekend in Italy, where the Pustertaler Ski Marathon and Prato Piazza Mountain Challenge await the skiers. Team Mäenpää’s Viktor Mäenpää is looking forward to the first races of the year.
This Finnish Pro Team has been very consistent in its pursuit of greatness. This unit has been the best Pro Team from Finland for many years, and in the past, the Mäenpää gang has also been among the top 10 Pro Teams in Ski Classics. They even merged with a Norwegian team for one year to get better results. Last season, they returned to being the Mäenpää squad and are now back to the basics with six skiers.
