Vasaloppet China 2025
This Saturday, China’s premier cross-country skiing event, Vasaloppet China, marks its 23rd edition in the city of Changchun, located in northern Jilin Province. Just a 90-minute flight from Beijing, this celebrated race brings together elite and recreational skiers from across China and the globe.
Organized by Nordic Ways in partnership with Sweden’s iconic Vasaloppet, the event holds a unique position as China’s sole cross-country skiing race on the FIS calendar. As a Ski Classics Challengers event, it stands as a hallmark of international ski racing.
The 2025 edition promises to be a landmark event featuring the largest international field in its history. After overcoming the challenges of the pandemic, Vasaloppet China continues to thrive, solidifying its status as a trailblazer in the cross-country skiing community.
Unlike the Swedish Vasaloppet’s epic 90km course between Sälen and Mora, the Chinese counterpart offers a stunning 25km loop within Jingyuetan Park. Participants in the main 50km race will tackle two laps, navigating a challenging hilly opening section followed by a flatter stretch. The initial hills were once part of the 2006-2007 FIS World Cup course, which German legend Tobias Angerer praised for its thoughtful design. This allows amateur skiers a taste of World Cup terrain.
Northern China’s winters are known for their extremes, and while last year’s race saw milder temperatures, participants should prepare for an average of -10°C. The event’s snow conditions, predominantly man-made, have consistently earned praise for their quality.
The 23rd Vasaloppet China kicks off at 10:00 local time – 3:00 CET, following a grand opening ceremony. The day will conclude with the prestigious Vasa Banquet and Prizegiving Gala, celebrating the achievements of all participants.
