Thea Krokan Murud Ends Her Career As A Pro Tour Skier

by Leandro Lutz • 13.06.2022
After being part of the Ski Classics Tour since Birkebeinerrennet 2019, Thea Krokan Murud puts her skis on the shelf. The Ski Classics event Ylläs-Levi was her last Pro Tour race.

About two weeks ago, Lager 157 Ski Team announced that the Pro Tour skier Thea Krokan Murud was leaving the Swedish Pro Team.

In an Instagram post, Thea Krokan Murud announced that she would be retiring from the professional rankings after many years of training, dedication, and success as a runner, traditional cross-country skier, and lately, Pro Tour athlete.

Thea Krokan Murud announcement:

“It’s time to say goodbye. There is a time for everything, and I’m putting the skis on the shelf. There have been some fantastic years that are hard to describe in a few words. Being allowed to make a living off my hobby was a dream come true. Results-wise, 13-year-old Thea might have dreamed of more, but where I stand today, success is more about the feeling I am left with. For me, the top sport has been very nice but also brutal. Long-distance skiing gave me a new outlook on training, a curiosity, and willpower that I am infinitely happy about and wish I had learned much earlier. I still love working out, but the spark, joy, and desire to compete are gone. I am humbled and proud of everything I have experienced. I am forever grateful for the amazing people, friendships, and experiences that I will take with me for the rest of my life. Thank you to everyone who has supported, believed in me, and cheered me on all these years; it means so much. To everyone I’ve met during my ski career who’ve made this chapter so wonderful, thank you. Thank you for family and friends who have been there through the ups and downs and have been an invaluable support. Finally, and most importantly, mom and dad, I will never get to thank you enough for everything they have done; this journey would never have been possible without you. See you soon, thanks.”

Thea Krokan Murud has 16 starts at Ski Classics Pro Tour and 2 Ski Classics Challengers events on her Palmares. In Season XII, he finished 11th overall in the Yellow Champion competition.
