This Pro Team is the first and only Austrian squad in the Ski Classics Pro Tour series. Ski-Willy Marathon Team Austria secured the 32nd position in the Pro Team ranking during Season XIV and now aims to score as many points as possible and finish in the top 25 overall in the upcoming winter season.

Ski-Willy Marathon Team Austria counts on local power with two Austrian skiers but also has an international flavor with athletes from Germany and Slovenia. For the upcoming Ski Classics Season XV, the team is bringing seven Pro Team athletes, five men and two women: Florian Göbel (1972), Eva Močnik (2003), Lorenz Grüber (1999), Matthias Waldauf (1999), Josua Struebel (1995), Luisa Grissbaum (1997), and Stefan Falk (1997).

“The Ski-Willy Marathon Team Austria was established in 2015 and is based in the heart of the Austrian Alps,” says the Pro Team Director Peter Kiene, highlighting that the Austrian Pro Team is one of the most successful German-speaking teams with more than 120 overall podiums in long-distance skiing races.

Reflecting on their goals for the upcoming season, the Pro Team Director reflected: “The most important goals for the Ski Classics Season XV are to score as many points as possible and finish in the top 25 of the Pro Team rankings,” and adds about their ambitions also on the Ski Classics Challengers series:

“We would also like to fight for victory in the Ski Classics Challengers races in the Alps for both women and men.”

Ski-Willy Marathon Team Austria’s strengths are clear: “All our athletes are studying and working. Our strength is the motivation and passion for racing. As part-time professionals, our athletes are required to combine the demands of everyday study or professional life with demanding training and competitions. To achieve this balancing act, you need a lot of discipline, enormous ambition, the ability to improvise, and a passion for competition,” says Peter Kiene and adds:

“In the background, we have some young athletes who are training hard to not only compete in Ski Classics in the future but also to be at the forefront. The new cooperation with Gastein opens excellent training opportunities. Together with the only Pro Tour event organizer in Austria, we can raise the visibility of cross-country skiing in the Alpine region to a new level.”
