During the weekend, the Pro Team from Denmark announced that Niina Virtanen is joining their ranks. The athlete is moving from Team Edux and joining the Danish Skimarathon Team for the upcoming Ski Classics Season XV. Virtanen is a Finnish long-distance skier and ended Ski Classics Season XIV in the 35th position, with 339 points in the Yellow Champion bib competition overall.

Denmark Skimarathon Team’s announcement on Instagram:

“POWER from FINLAND

We definitely overachieved with Niina Virtanen on our team. We have been in contact since the very start of our project, and we are super happy to have Niina joining the team for the buildup toward Ski Classics 2023/2024.

Niina is like the rest of the team, also a harder worker, besides a passion for long-distance skiing! She will share her skiing passion and competitiveness in this unique sport with us. We are really looking forward to this and also hope that she can inspire more females in Denmark to transfer their powers from other sports to long-distance skiing.

Niina is a solid and merited athlete in both skiing and rowing and will be the captain for our female side this coming season and help to guide this developing side of the team,” says the press release continues:

“Welcome, Niina; we shall together motivate each other to become stronger for next season without pressure other than having fun during ski race weekends, and let’s hope lots of them.”
