Moonlight Classic Seiser Alm: Cross-Country Skiing Under The Full Moon

by MOONLIGHT CLASSIC • 06.07.2022
A special experience on the largest high plateau in Europe, the full moon in February is something extraordinary: that is when enthusiastic professional and recreational cross-country skiers meet on the Seiser Alm in South Tyrol for the Moonlight Classic.

The event is a cross-country ski race in the moonlight, which takes place every year and is run exclusively in the classic diagonal style. Competitors can choose two routes: one long and one short. The long course is 30km long and challenging, and the short one is 15km long and considered easy. Both routes start and finish in Compatsch, located at an altitude of 1,800m in the Seiser Alm district.

A must for passionate cross-country skiers: on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 8:00 pm, the starting signal will be given for the 15th time for the spectacular cross-country skiing competition on the Alpe di Siusi. Participants can expect deep winter conditions on the course lit up with torches.

Registrations are now open

Discover the Dolomites on cross-country skis. Those who want to enjoy cross-country skiing holidays in South Tyrol are in the right place on the Alpe di Siusi trails in the heart of the Dolomites. Eighty kilometers of sunny trails tempt you to cross-country skiing over the Alpe di Siusi at an altitude of between 1,800 and 2,200 meters. The trails have double or quadruple tracks and are prepared with perfection.

Whether skating or classic cross-country skiing, beginners or professionals: the Alpe di Siusi in South Tyrol offers suitable trails for every taste. When cross-country skiing over the Alpe di Siusi, you experience the extraordinary expanse of Europe’s most extensive high alpine pasture and the mountain world of the Dolomites – UNESCO World Heritage – up close: Sassolungo, Plattkofel, and Schlern are within reach.

The Alpe di Siusi is very popular with many top international teams. Due to the low-oxygen mountain air between 1,800 and 2,300 meters, the Alpe di Siusi is particularly suitable for professional high-altitude and endurance training.

Together with Val Gardena, the Alpe di Siusi is part of the largest cross-country skiing carousel in Europe, Dolomiti Nordicski, with a total of 1,300 kilometers of trails.
