Danish Skimarathon Team – Pro Team Presentation Season XIV

by Teemu Virtanen • 04.11.2022
Denmark is different from the country we think about when Nordic skiing is in question. But the Danish Skimarathon Team wants to change this fact and promote skiing in the land of H.C. Andersen. These Danes are keen on writing their own fairytale in Ski Classics, and they will do it with their unwavering passion.

There are five skiers on the Danish Skimarathon Team; two come from Australia: Ella Jackson and Margeaux Thompson. Ella finished 7th at König Ludwig Lauf in Germany last winter, and she participated in several Alpen Cup races and the Austrian National Championships, where she finished in the top 10. On the other hand, Margeaux hasn’t raced outside her home turf; her latest results are from 2019 when she took part in some races at the Australia/New Zealand cup.

The three male skiers in this Danish squad have tried their wings in Ski Classics. Bjørn Toft finished Engadin La Diagonela as the 102nd fastest skier last winter, while Sune Elmose raced at Marcialonga, where he reached the finish line in Cavalese as the 166th best skier. Joachim Thrane was a bit faster than his teammate at Marcialonga and finished 129th, and he also participated at Vasaloppet last winter, where he entered Mora as the 251st fastest skier.

This team brings a new flavor to the Ski Classics circuit as this is the first time a Danish Pro Team enters the Pro Tour. They will not break down the walls and conquer the battlefield, but they will do their best to bring joy and passion to the world of long-distance skiing. Doing so will make cross-country skiing a tad more popular in Denmark, and that is their ultimate goal.
