Emergency disciplinary meeting – On Monday, Simon could lose everything
After Friday’s fraud conviction, the French Ski Federation’s disciplinary committee will convene on Monday. There, the Olympic dream – and perhaps the entire career – of biathlon star Julia Simon could be at stake.
On Friday, the ten-time world champion was found guilty of fraud and theft against her national teammates. The disciplinary committee of the French Ski Federation (FFS) will now decide how to proceed.

For three years, Julia Simon denied the accusations of fraud and theft from teammate Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and a team physiotherapist. But on October 24, the 29-year-old appeared in court in Albertville as a defendant in the criminal case. Confronted with evidence from two years of investigation, Simon confessed in court, also admitting to additional offenses involving other victims not included in the original 2023 complaint.
In addition to her criminal sentence – three months suspended prison and a €15,000 fine – Simon now faces potentially severe sporting, financial, and professional consequences.
Could lose Olympic spot and national team position
Immediately after the verdict, the French Ski Federation confirmed that it would handle the case internally. Without disclosing details, Federation president Fabien Saguez stated that FFS “acknowledges the court’s decision” and will “take steps to ensure the well-being of all athletes on the team.”
Under FFS rules, the disciplinary committee is being called to decide on further action. According to French media, the committee will meet on Monday, October 27, aiming to reach a decision before the team’s next training camp on November 10.
The possible sanctions range from a formal warning to suspension or complete removal from the national team.
Simon has ten World Championship golds and one Olympic silver and was among the main French hopes for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. Only days before the trial, she had been named as one of six biathletes pre-selected for the Games—a list that also includes Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, the teammate who initially filed the complaint in 2023.
Background: The Julia Simon case
Julia Simon admitted to using the credit card of teammate Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and a team staff member for unauthorized purchases, as well as committing two additional cases of fraud between 2021 and 2022.
Braisaz-Bouchet filed a police report in January 2023, alleging fraud and theft. The case involved several online purchases – including electronics worth over €2,000 – delivered to Simon’s home in Beaufortain. Some of these transactions occurred while the team was attending events such as the Blink Festival in Sandnes, Norway.
Simon was arrested and questioned in October 2023, still denying all accusations. The police then conducted a thorough investigation of electronic traces and data activity. The findings were later presented as evidence in court on October 24, 2025.
In total, Simon was charged with five counts of fraud and attempted fraud, involving three victims. The prosecution requested a two-month suspended sentence and a €20,000 fine; the judges imposed a three-month suspended sentence and a €15,000 fine.
Simon’s lawyer has requested that her B2 criminal record entry be removed, as the biathlete is also employed by the French customs service and wishes to keep her position there.
