Alexander Ospelt elected new FIS president

Alexander Ospelt of Liechtenstein has been elected president of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) at the 57th FIS Congress in Belgrade, Serbia.

Alexander Ospelt of Liechtenstein has been elected president of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) at the 57th FIS Congress in Belgrade, Serbia.

Ospelt defeated incumbent Johan Eliasch, who competed representing Georgia after acquiring Georgian citizenship, in a tight vote during the General Assembly on June 11, 2026. The final tally was 65 votes to 64, with 75 participants and a voting weight of 129. There were no abstentions. Ospelt will serve as FIS president for the 2026-2030 term.

A PhD in Law and practicing attorney, Ospelt has been a lifelong member of the Schaan Ski Club in Liechtenstein and a certified ski instructor. He served as president of the Liechtenstein Ski Association from 2015 to 2023 and as vice-president of the Federation of European Ski and Snowboard Associations (FESA) from 2021 to 2024, before joining the FIS Council in 2024. His FIS campaign was titled “Building Bridges.”
