The Biathlon World Cup final in Holmenkollen starts today, Thursday. The 32-year-old former World Champion takes the opportunity to say goodbye.

In a surprising announcement, she reveals that this weekend will mark the end of her successful career.

Lisa Theresa Hauser of Austria won the individual race at the World Championships in Pokljuka in 2021 and has stood on the top step of the World Cup podium six times. In total, she has 13 podium finishes at the highest level.

Swedish fans will also remember her for winning the pursuit in Östersund earlier this winter, a surprise victory and her only one this season. She also won the sprint in Östersund in the 2021/2022 season, when she also finished second in the individual race there.

The biathlete from Reith near Kitzbühel has been part of the world elite for nearly 15 years. Now she thanks her competitors, coaches, teammates, and fans in an emotional post on social media.

“For the past 15 years, biathlon has been my life. I have experienced so many incredible moments, shared them with very special people, and competed weekend after weekend with the best biathletes in the World. My competitors became friends. My coaches, especially Sandra and Fred, became my second family. But it has also required a lot of strength, and for me, now is the right time to say goodbye,” Hauser writes.
