The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina start at the beginning of February. Now, all the cross-country skiers have been named for the Swedish Olympic Team.

Milano Cortina, in Italy, will host the next Winter Olympics. The Opening Ceremony will be held on February 6, 2026, and there will be 12 cross-country skiing competitions over 10 days, culminating in the women’s 50km mass start in classic technique on February 22, 2026.

According to a press release from the Swedish Ski Association, the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK) has announced the final Olympic spots for the Swedish Olympic squad this Tuesday. Eight women and eight men were named for the cross-country skiing team.

“In good dialogue with us in the national team management, SOK has selected Calle Halfvarsson and Johan Häggström for the last two places. They have both sprinted in at the last moment and contribute with great experience and a high level that is important to have in an Olympic squad,” says national team manager Anders Byström.

Calle Halfvarsson finished sixth in this weekend’s World Cup competition in Oberhof over 10 kilometers in classic style, only about 10 seconds behind the podium and world-class riders like Erik Valnes and Iivo Niskanen.

“Calle showed a completely new level compared to earlier this season. Calle is being selected as an alternative in a Swedish relay team,” says SOK’s sports director Fredrik Joulamo.

Johan Häggström finished twelfth in the same race, beaten by Halfvarsson by 18.5 seconds.

Häggström also showed his forefoot in Saturday’s sprint, perhaps a little too much. An incident in the last corner ended with the in-form Häggström never getting to race the semi and final in the freestyle sprint.

“Johan has previously been on the podium in the World Cup sprint relay together with Edvin Anger this year. But these strengthening results in Oberhof are also ruled out by him based on the basic criterion. Johan is a versatile skater who can help the team in both sprint and distance,” says Fredrik Joulamo.

National team manager Anders Byström about the complete Olympic squad.

“It has been a long process with many spreadsheets, but now it feels good that the Olympic squad is nailed down and that we are bringing an exciting mix to the team,” he says.
