The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina will not begin until next February, but four biathletes have already been named to the U.S. Olympic Team.

Milano Cortina, in Italy, will host the next Winter Olympics. The Opening Ceremony will be held on February 6, 2026, and there will be 10 biathlon events over 14 days, culminating in the women’s 12.5km Mass Start on February 21, 2026.

According to a press release from the U.S. Biathlon, four athletes have been selected for the Olympic Games in Milano-Cortina 2026. Two women and two men were named to the U.S. biathlon team, with the remaining four Olympic spots to be decided following U.S. biathlon’s time trials on January 6, 2026.

According to the press release, “With trimester one complete, the team now heads into a Christmas break. Irwin, Wright, Maxime Germain (Chamonix-Mont Blanc, FRA/National Guard Biathlon), and Margie Freed (Apple Valley, MN/Craftsbury Green Racing Project) have all secured qualification for the 2026 Milano-Cortina Olympic Winter Games and will return to racing at World Cup 4 in Oberhof (GER) in the new year. The remaining four Olympic spots will be decided on January 6, following U.S. Biathlon’s timed trials in Antholz, ITA. Click HERE to view the athletes competing in the trials.”
