The Austrian Pro Team, Ski-Willy Marathon Team Austria, has added a promising young name to its roster for the upcoming Ski Classics season.

Sixteen-year-old Aaron Gunnarsson from Sweden will join the Ski-Willy Marathon Team Austria as a Cub athlete, aiming to gain experience on the long-distance skiing scene.

Gunnarsson, who represents Brovallens IF, took his first steps in long-distance skiing last winter at several Swedish long-distance races. This summer, he is set to move to Torsby to attend the renowned Torsby Ski High School, where he will focus on long-distance skiing.

He is expected to compete in the Gastein Classics, likely another event in Central Europe, the legendary Vasaloppet, and a race in Norway in March.

“His great role model is, of course, Alvar Myhlback, who has shown that you can be successful as a long-distance skier even at a young age,” said Peter Kiene, Pro Team Director at Ski-Willy Marathon Team Austria.

To ProXCskiing.com, Kiene emphasized the Pro Team’s commitment to nurturing young talent:

“We’re delighted to have Aaron on the team. One of our team’s goals is to provide young, motivated athletes with the opportunity to experience the Ski Classics. Furthermore, Aaron’s commitment will bring us additional attention in Scandinavia. His first training session in our team colors in the Torsby ski tunnel immediately attracted attention. We will give him plenty of time to develop and gain experience.”

Adding to the family involvement, Aaron’s father, Henrik, will join the service team and support the athletes at events in Sweden and Norway.

With this new addition, Ski-Willy Marathon Team Austria continues to invest in the next generation of Ski Classics athletes while strengthening its presence in Scandinavia.
