The Ski Classics Challengers events Gsiesertal Lauf Classic and Skating have new dates for 2026.

The Ski Classics Challengers events Gsiesertal Lauf Classic and Skating have new dates for 2026.

Gsiesertal Lauf, also known as Granfondo Val Casies, became part of the Ski Classics Challengers series last season with a double event weekend – 42km Classic and 42km Skating races – in the Gsiesertal Valley, South Tyrol, Italy. For Season XVII (2026) the events are set for new dates due to the Winter Olympics.

According to the Local Organizing Committee, the new dates for the events are Saturday, February 28 (42km Classic), and Sunday, March 1, 2026 (42km Skating).

“The word has been in the wind for a while now, and, as of 07.04.25, it’s official: In the interests of civil security, no other events may be held during the course of the “Olympic Games Milano-Cortina 2026,” from January 26 to February 24, 2026.

Consequently, we are now in the unfortunate position of having to postpone the Gsiesertal Lauf 2026 by one week. The 42nd annual race will, therefore, be held on Saturday, February 28 (Classic + Kids Run) and Sunday, March 1 (Skating).

If you have already booked your accommodation, we urge you to rebook it immediately. We should see this change of plans in a positive light, as the Olympic Games are an exceptional event.

Registration for the 2026 Gsiesertal Lauf will open, as always, on 1 June.”

The Gsiesertal Lauf is one of the most traditional Italian long-distance skiing events, held since 1984.

To celebrate its 42nd edition, the event is once again part of the Ski Classics Challengers series with two races: a 42km Classic on Saturday, February 28, and a 42km Skating on March 1, 2026.
