Ski star couple celebrate dream season—With one condition

The fairytale season of Ebba Andersson and her boyfriend, Gustaf Berglund, is coming to an end. Now, it’s time to enjoy—but Berglund has some conditions.

The fairytale season of Ebba Andersson and her boyfriend, Gustaf Berglund, is coming to an end. Now, it’s time to enjoy—but Berglund has some conditions.

During the World Championships in Trondheim, Ebba Andersson won three gold medals out of a possible four. This past weekend, the 27-year-old Swede dominated the long-distance skiing elite two days in a row at the Ski Classics season finale.

Her boyfriend, Gustaf Berglund, also had a great season. He achieved his big international breakthrough at the Trondheim World Championships, winning bronze in the relay and finishing in the top 10 in the 50km race.

While Andersson traveled to Norway for the Ski Classics finale, Berglund competed in the Swedish Cup final, where he secured the overall season victory—earning just under $3,000 USD in prize money.

“It feels great. And the money will come in handy, considering the vacation destinations my girlfriend has suggested. They are quite exotic,” Berglund told Expressen, elaborating:

“We’ve talked about places like Hawaii, Cape Verde, and Gran Canaria. But lately, Zanzibar has also been in the mix.”

Income Differences

There is a financial gap between the couple, who recently bought a house together in Östersund.

This season alone, Ebba Andersson has earned near $200,000 USD in prize money from the World Cup and World Championships. On top of that, she receives bonuses from private sponsors and show races. In contrast, Berglund’s total earnings amount to just under $3,000 USD.

So, does this mean Ebba flies business class while you sit in the back of the plane?

“We actually talked about flying business class. But I flat-out said no. That’s not going to happen,” Berglund stated.

After a moment of thought, he added:

“But I wouldn’t be surprised if she flies business and I end up in the back. That wouldn’t shock me.”

Andersson and Berglund met in 2021. At that time, she was already established among the world’s best, in a completely different financial situation than Berglund.

“It’s always been like this—she’s done better than me financially. We’ll see how things turn out, but for now, we’re just going to enjoy some time together.”

Regardless, Berglund is clear that Andersson isn’t skiing for the money.

“She does it out of love for the sport.”

And maybe to treat her boyfriend to a vacation?

“I hope so!”
