Due to the lack of snow in the Vallelunga valley, in particular on the Reschensee lake, the 75km long Pro Tour event Reschenseerennen taking place Saturday, January 15, has been changed into a Time Trial and moved up to Melago in the Langtaufer valley. Time Trial is a new exciting format in Visma Ski Classics.

For the first time, an Individual Time Trial will take place in Visma Ski Classics. The 10km La Venosta Time Trial on January 15, starts in Kapron and finishes at Melago Alm.

“Working with a weather-dependent sport, we always have to be prepared with a new plan if we face too little snow, too much snow, or like in recent years, an ongoing pandemic. This is no news to our organization and something we have to work with almost every season. We have been wanting to try out the Time Trial format, the plan was last weekend, but we changed to the mass start format for the Prato Piazza Mountain Challenge, and now is a great opportunity when we saw no way to organize a normal long-distance race in the area.”

“Even though this is a shorter format and not really long-distance skiing as we are used to seeing it, we believe it will be positive for some different athletic profiles and slightly open up the concept of Visma Ski Classics, making it suitable for more skiers. A chance for athletes with different physiological strengths to claim podium places and points for their Pro Teams. After last tough back-to-back weekend, and upcoming La Diagonela and Marcialonga weekends, we believe a shorter course distance could be quite ok, however, it is definitely not an easy course with 400 height meters in 10km,” says David Nilsson, CEO Visma Ski Classics.
