The cross-country skiing World Cup season 2023/2024 starts this weekend in Ruka, Finland. The Swedish national team is now selected.

Ruka, Finland, is the place for this year’s cross-country skiing World Cup premiere. The event starts on Friday, November 24, with a sprint race in classic technique. On Saturday, November 25, a 10km classic style race with individual start awaits. And on Sunday, November 26, the World Cup premiere weekend ends with a 20km mass start race in freestyle technique.

In a press release, the Swedish Ski Association has named their cross-country ski team for the upcoming World Cup premiere in Ruka. Sweden will start with 18 athletes. On the women’s side, Sweden will start with 9 skiers. Already on the men’s side, also 9 athletes will start for the Scandinavian country.

“It will be a lot of fun to start the World Cup season and see how we perform against other nations,” says Swedish national team manager Anders Byström in the press release.

For the Swedish national team skiers, the Gällivare premiere was a chance to check how is the shape after a demanding dryland training season:

“The premiere in Gällivare shows that our most established skiers are off to a good start and that we should be able to field a strong team in Finland,” says Byström and adds:

“Selections for the premiere are always difficult to make, but we think we have received good feedback in Gällivare. As an example, Truls Gisselman can be mentioned, who had a strong weekend and now gets a ticket to Ruka.”
