The FIS Fall Meeting decided that teams and athletes from Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup in the coming winter.

The FIS Fall Meeting decided that teams and athletes from Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup in the coming winter.

The International Ski & Snowboard Federation (FIS) Council decided last week, during its Fall meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, to keep Russian and Belarusian teams and athletes from participating in the cross-country skiing World Cup.

The news emerged from Aftonbladet and was reported by Langd.se

“There was no discussion; it was more information. But we have gone beyond the Nordic countries and been very clear, and also had the Swedish Olympic Committee with us on that issue, that we do not think there is any reason to let Russia and Belarus in as the situation is right now,” says the cross-country ski manager from Swedish Ski Association, Lars Öberg, to Aftonblated, and added:

“Nothing has changed since the decision was made to keep them out. We have taken that line in Sweden together with the Nordic countries. So, we are satisfied. Unfortunately – it must still be said – we have to maintain that approach.”

Earlier in May, Ski Classics extended the ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes and Pro Teams.

“The board of Ski Classics has decided not to remove the ban introduced in February 2022 upon Belarusian and Russian Pro Teams and athletes. The situation will be unchanged for the upcoming Season XV,” said David Nilsson, CEO Ski Classics.
