Falun World Cup – Mixed Relay – Preview

On Sunday, March 19, 2023, Falun will host the 4x5km mixed relay World Cup event, which will see several top countries competing for the podium.

Among these countries is Norway, the only nation to finish on the podium in the previous two events of this kind. The team finished first and second in the only mixed relay World Cup event held this season in Beitostølen on December 11. Skier Heidi Weng has achieved two podium finishes in the 4x5km mixed relay, finishing third in Falun in 2022 and second in Beitostølen in the same year.

Sweden has also made its mark on this season’s events, being the only other country to finish on the same World Cup team event podium twice so far. This was achieved through their first and second-place finishes at the women’s team sprint in Livigno on January 22.

Other strong contenders in the upcoming event include the United States, who won the inaugural 4x5km mixed relay in Falun in March 2022 with a team consisting of Rosie Brennan, Zak Ketterson, Scott Patterson, and Jessica Diggins.

Finland finished second in the 4x5km mixed relay event in Falun last year, and Perttu Hyvärinen and Kerttu Niskanen (not starting tomorrow) were part of both the Finnish team and their best result in the current season, a fourth-place finish in Beitostølen.

France won the 4x5km mixed relay event at the U-23 World Championships this season, and although they finished fifth in the mixed relay event in Beitostølen on December 11, they remain a team to watch out for.
