Dominance in Idre Fjäll: Swedish biathlon kicks off with a bang
The Swedish biathlon season started on a high note this Saturday at Idre Fjäll, as the Sverigepremiär got underway in style. With perfect shooting, strong ski legs, and big performances, both Hanna Öberg and Sebastian Samuelsson made loud statements that they are ready for the World Cup season.
Samuelsson shows serious form
Sebastian Samuelsson put on a commanding performance in the men’s sprint. Starting first, he led from gun to finish, combining flawless shooting with powerful skiing that no one could match. According to Langd.se, he “dominated from start to goal.”
In his own words:
“It was a very good race. I am pleased with how I executed,” Samuelsson said in Vinterstudion. “The course was relatively light, and the conditions were easy, so I tried to push with everything I had from the start — I think I succeeded.”
Despite strong German challengers — Philipp Horn (+39.9s) and Simon Kaiser (+53.6s) both finished on the podium — Samuelsson’s margin was decisive.
Notably, Martin Ponsiluoma was the next-best Swede (5th), but three misses on the range prevented a closer battle.
This kind of start is enormous: it not only boosts his confidence but also signals to the national team and selectors that he’s in serious early-season form.

Hanna Öberg: in a league of her own
On the women’s side, Hanna Öberg crushed the competition. Langd’s headline puts it bluntly: “Imponerade i premiären – krossade motståndet” — she “impressed in the premiere – crushed the opposition.”
Elvira Öberg finished second, after a missed shot, but she was well behind her sister Hanna. Linn Gestblom, who made a comeback after more than a year and a half of absence, impressively finished third after flawless shooting on the shooting range.
The closest international star was Italian Lisa Vitozzi, who finished fourth in the competition, missing one shot.
